So here I go on a hopefully long and fruitful journey down a path that will free me of the Google machine. I have many, many, many sites geared towards getting tons of Google traffic, archiving the #1 keyword ranking, and spending countless hours getting links to my sites in hopes of getting a +1 to my page rank next time the G-men (No not the Giants but speaking of which ALL HAIL ELI & SCREW YOU TOM BRADY) decide to do an update. Hopefully they will at least do it correctly next time.
5 Reasons Why I Hate Google:
- It takes 5 seconds to get indexed, but 5 months to get a decent ranking
- They make arbitrary decisions without warning that hurt site
- Nothing ever gets done right the first time (I realize they have a lot to consider, but that’s why they are a billion dollar corporation with thousands of employees)
- When I build a site for them to like… they get mad (wow… Google and My Girlfriend… future article?)
- They punish the little guy (blogger) while catering to the big guy (advertisers)… can anyone say PayPerPost
Anyway… I considered blocking robots from my site but figured hey, I hate search engines at the current moment, not traffic. So I’ll allow them to spider my site and send their traffic in while I bitch and moan about how annoying they are. I know how it will go… the same way it always goes… the shitty little engines (usually MSN) will love my site and Google will say “good work, I’ll be back in 6 months, and if you’re still working your ass off maybe I’ll send you a few hits”.
So what am I going to spend my time on? I’m going to work to build a navigable site… nay a navigable community… where I will do my best to show a different way to get traffic. Web 2.0 baby! Stumble Upon, Digg, BlogCatalog… they will all be my friends; however, my #1 goal will be to provide useful information for my readers. I might even try to give a hand with some of you perusing the Google Machine’s blessing.
If you have an idea for the blog let me know. If you like the blog help the community by commenting and submitting it to all your favorite social media sites. If you want to write an article I’m always open to the suggestion.
Anyway subscribe to my feed and I’ll do my best not to let you down.
Until tomorrow continue to fight the Google machine

I always feel bad when there are no comments. Here I’ll be the first to start the discussion. Let’s hear some bitching!
Best of luck in this venture. I signed up for your RSS feed so I hope you can send some good advice on mastering social media my way. Hmmm my #1 complaint about Google is… how they are so damn secretive… no one uses Google for things like checking backlinks because they are jerks… Google is a bully, but all us webfolk have to appease him I guess
As much as I’d like to support your “against the system” action here, I cannot. Google is not some mean-machine that’s out to destroy your site! Google is in deed giant and might seem scary to some, but they treat anyone correctly, they use RELEVANT ads to support FREE and VERY HIGH QUALITY services ( gmail, google for your domain, youtube, and the list has no ending ).
On the other hand Google can do whatever they want with their indexing and page-rank algorithms. Your main goal should not be to get the highest page-rank, but to make your site as relevant as possible to people out there that need information/services.
You want to rely on “Web 2.0″ and “community” based sites to promote your site ? That’s ok as long as your are willing to accept that the fate of your site is in the hands of the people. And they are the one who decide if you’re worth it or not. That being said, I don’t support you and consequently I buried your Digg story and Stumbled down your page.
Regards, brayn
Wow brayn,
It’s nice to see people as spiteful towards their fellow bloggers as I am towards Google. I guess now I need to go find any of your sites and let the will of the people rule. Glad to not have you around.

Good luck with this. I can understand you, Google can be very annoying. And that Google sandbox, that they like to put new sites in it really sucks.
I get lots of nice people like brayn at my blog too, sure is nice…
I’ll be back to read “Google and My Girlfriend”
Claudia - Yeah that good old sandbox is fun. One good thing I can concede to Google (yes even I can admit a few things are good) if even though they sandbox usually they will allow you to get some minor traffic for less competitive terms.
Sucker - Nice to hear I’m not the only one… was a little disheartening to get on my very first post… alas the world needs all kinds to go around I guess

Well, as far as there’s a right to free speech and a Stumble-down button I’ll use them both.
Well I’m glad you at least care enough to come back… (L)
So I am not the only one who is being frustrated by Google. Web 2.0 is indeed the way.I get lots of traffic from SU, Entrecard etc and I am now concentrating on making as many friends in different social networks.

Love the post although I don’t really agree with you. Google I think does a great job, It’s tough being the king of the hill. I use social Web 2.0 to build traffic to my sites, but I don’t count on them to build an income. The real income comes from people who are looking for and ready to buy whatever it is you are selling. Google does that with their search engine, by getting your sites on the top of the search pages you get to the people who are ready to buy. I am looking forward to the Google and my girlfriend post, should be a real hoot.
This is going to be interesting. I’m subscribing to your feed just to see what happens especially on the money-making part should you decide to share about it. All the best!
When you’re searching for something aren’t you glad Google is around. They are pretty good at finding the right info that you need - compare their results to the other engines.
Would people be happy if they allowed all the spam sites and splogs to rank high in the serp’s?
Their ability to find the most relevant content is what makes them so huge and it’s why they dominate the search engines. Learn proper SEO and take advantage of Google’s search traffic and you will make money. Spend time chasing social traffic and you will have a bunch of bloggers on your site not spending money.
Google isn’t evil, they don’t pick on anyone who follows the rules and they reward people who provide content in the correct format. Payperpost and the folks who used it were gaming the search results - Google was correct in slapping all the sites involved. Not doing so would have allowed crappy sites to rank well simply because they bought more links. Would this have made Google a better search engine?
You can hate Google and many do but they are necessary if you want to earn a living online. All the social traffic in the world won’t make you money.

Hey Grizz,
First off I’m a big fan and love your blog… I’m amazed you even found your way here so I must be doing SOMETHING right
Secondly in retrospect this mission statement was a “little” harsh… Google can be a bully for sure but they probably aren’t evil
Finally I’ve been strongly contemplating writing “A New Mission Statement” as this one doesn’t really fit with where I want this blog to go… one of these days I’ll get around to it… currently (if you read some of my more recent posts) I’m working on a website creation guide that will be fairly SEO orientated
Thanks,
DaMan
Oh and PS I had someone ask about using blogger platforms for niche blogs on another one of my posts and planned (and still do plan) on referring to your blog with that one
DaMan, I may be the only person on entrecard that actually uses it just to find blogs and then “read” them. What a concept. lol
I gathered from your post that you understand the value of Google and were venting more from frustration with them than anything else. SEO can be frustrating and a monster to master but it is possible as my “free and ugly” blogspot blogs demonstrate.
You probably realize that this blog is not very well optimized for search traffic but I don’t think you are overly concerned - sometimes it’s just fun to have a social site and let off steam. I must admit that I have thought of doing it myself.
If you ever need a hand let me know and I appreciate you taking my comments as constructive - a rare thing these days.
All the best.
Grizzly’s last blog post..The Scourge of Web 2.0
Ha ha yes you probably are… I’m really just now getting used to entrecard myself but it is cool…
Yeah I know this blog is pretty poorly optimized and you hit the nail on the head… I debate back and fourth if I do want to optimize it or not… so I may in the future… for now it’s just my place to come and write what I feel like without worrying about doing the SEO myself
So in what way isn’t your site optimized for search traffic? Somehow I’m missing things. What is Web 2.0? Here comes another search I guess. I’m not up to date on understanding this SEO stuff although I try. So google must have dumped your pr, right? Funny thing about them. I had a site I couldn’t get into for years and yet it had a pr of 4! Go figure. Soon as I got in, the pr disappeared. I don’t understand it.
Blue Licorice’s last blog post..Radar Guns Help Sports Speeds Increase
The site isn’t optimized for SEO on account of me not keyword stuffing, actively getting backlinks, or really doing anything besides writing what I feel like… it’s hard to explain how you’re NOT doing something… Go read Vic’s Blogger Unleashed, Courtney Tuttle’s Internet Marketing School, or Grizz’s Make Money Online for Beginners and SEO will become a lot clearer.
Web 2.0 is basiclly friend generate traffic. Things like StumbleUpon, Digg, Sphinn, or one of the services you can see at the bottom of the page.
This site hasn’t been around long enough to get a PR but I doubt it will ever get any. Thanks for stopping by
