Step #8 – Tagging Posts

Ok so this is the easiest step in the world and I probably shouldn’t even cover it, but I put it in my plan thus I will at least make a quick note about it. Tagging your posts is useful for several reasons 1) it helps places like technorati know what your blog is about, 2) it gives google several more pages of content to look through (even if it does contain duplicate excerpts), and 3) it increases your keyword density on every page.

I’m too lazy really to figure out what keywords I want to use to tag my posts, so I use a super nifty plugin called simple tags. With simple tags I just click a button (click the yahoo one the rest suck) and it scans my content and gives me a list of clickable suggested tags. Look for good longtail tags, not short one worders.

Simple tags has the added bonus of automatically giving you a related posts plugin built in which is great for internal linking which SEO Zombie talks about at his blog.

Anyway I know this one was short but every little bit helps in this game.

I know that I tag my post manually because I already know the related terms of my post. Most of my post are just about the same so I really don’t have a huge problem with it. This is good to know even though it is simple though, nice post.

Tagging posts is very critical in terms of getting your site to benefit from SEO. You want the search engines to associate those keywords with your site.

I had never thought that tagging my posts would be so important for my site in terms of ranking in the search engines. I guess I can see how it makes it easier for the search engines to identify the content on your site this way.

Actually its a pretty interesting subject,i would rather choose my tags than using a plugin. However if you have a SEO plugin like Platinum SEO or ALL in One and you select that tags should be used as meta keywords you probably should pay more attention to what tags you’re choosing.

Cheers!

I’ve never really understood the use for tagging blog posts. On one of my blogs, I used general keywords for tags. Then on another one, I never did bother with it. But upon coming across this, I realized how good it would for internal linking and yes, keyword density.

i’ve been using this technic for a long time and can say very useful ..

#17 Jannice from Enterprise Micro Blogging on 09.22.09 at 9:09 am

When tagging your posts, you said it increases keyword density. From what I heard, Google and some search engines have a percentage limit of keyword densities so is it increasing keyword density legally?

I find tags are a great way to get noticed especially since the search engines have stopped looking at meta keywords.

I do it manually and I nofollow them to avoid any duplicate content issues.

Among all of web page promotion practices the most original and natural one is tagging what i have perceived so far.

#24 Chrystalle from business accounting on 02.27.11 at 11:40 pm

Simple tags is sure helpful. Tagging can be tiring at times and it helps to use certain features to make it easier.
