The Sandbox Revisited

Ok so the site I blogged about a long time ago that was in the google sandbox came out a while ago. I figured I would let you all know and see. It only took like 9 month, which is one of the longer sandbox runs I’ve ever heard of. I’m now #1 for my main keyword and in the low numbers for a lot of others. Anyway here is the moment we’ve all been waiting for:

sandbox

The Google sandbox has a lot of controversy of whether it exists or not, but a lot of people swear by it. However, its great to see you over came it and are not doing well in the SERPS

#3 DaMan on 05.05.09 at 6:17 am

Believe me… the sandbox exists… anyone who thinks it doesn’t is targeting less competitive niches, or using aged domains exclusivly

#4 sachin from bookkeeping outsourcing on 06.28.09 at 11:24 pm

Hey whats this sandbox and how does it help?? its seem something like very mysterious thing. And i love to know about the things which are mysterious …my going to digg about it and find out what it is …seems like interesting! ;)

#5 kim from dsl preisvergleich on 06.29.09 at 6:04 am

…it’s not clear whether the sandbox exists or not but it’s fact that there’s a filter to stop new project from boosting to fast. It could be am spammer-domain and Google wants to keep the index as clean as they can. So they have to use filters (by hand or by algoryhtm). I’m shure the sandbox is one of these filters!

I also firmly believe the sandbox is there for the more competitive keywords, although having strong links will always bring you back out and into the world of the living.

Yeah a pretty long run… But hey congratz with you position on your main keyword. :)

#8 ryan from fine jewelry on 07.14.09 at 9:09 pm

congratulation on getting out of sandbox. but if you are out of sandbox, how come page rank of your blog is zero? Is the traffic you display not for this blog?

#9 Mark Slater from healthy life tips on 07.17.09 at 10:13 pm

yeah of course Sandbox exist, Google has been going to great lengths to cut out on search engine spam. Some have faulted them on the lengths that they are going to claiming that it is effecting legitimate sites as well as the spam websites. While this is probably the case, as an owner of a website you need to place yourself in the position of Google and ask yourself what they are really looking for in a website. Google is looking for websites that offer quality content. Google still relies on the natural voting system that was first used to establish pagerank. They may change the way that they qualify content or inbound links, but the basic elements of a quality website will always remain the same.

I think you could have avoided the sandbox effect by NOT targeting high traffic keywords first. I have seen that new sites built with targeting only the long-term keywords initially aren’t sandboxed. Then after a few months, you could target the short 2-word keywords without difficulty!
Thanks

Has it been since May that Google did it’s last big update? I’ve been poised for a big move, but it’s yet to materialize. I wouldn’t call it sandbox, but I’d definitely say that a big shift in the serps is due.

#12 FitzroyDental from Cosmetic Dentistry Melbourne on 08.24.09 at 10:35 pm

The Sandbox is a muddled concept used to describe the phenomenon where a new web site seems to perform poorly in Google’s rankings for some period of time.

#13 Dave Richards from Pro Anorexia Tips on 08.30.09 at 6:15 am

I completely agree with DaMan about the existence of sandbox. I too have personally experienced it. One of my sites has now been ranking for a competitive single word keyword after a gap of about 1 yr! And thats even more time than yours of 9 months ;-)

#14 gagan from Landing Page Optimization on 09.08.09 at 2:16 am

nine months its really a big time But how did you determine that you was in sandbox , whether your website was still there in google index

#15 Dominika from vegetable growing on 09.12.09 at 7:38 am

Hmm, the sandbox is clearly visible on this picture. I’m a bit scaried as I’m just starting a new website. I’ll see what happens in my case. Anyway, congrats on being let out of sandbox!

#16 Satoshi from Anime Games on 09.12.09 at 6:52 pm

The blogs who are not sandboxed are usually blogs that are slowly optimized. For example When you made a new blog and you make 2 or 3 links per day the chances that your blog will get sandboxed is very low. But if your blog is optimized fast like making 40 backlinks or having optimized title tags will make your blog sandboxed really fast. I got this 300 uniques(peak) in 3 days then suddenly got 20-40 hits.

First of all congratulations for reaching top SERP for your main keywords and I wish you do better for the lot others too. Regarding the Google caffeine Matt Cutts has denied it in his recent interview with Search Engine Land. I am sure google changes search results regularly but there is no caffeine or sandbox effects rolled out as of yet and its official now. There are several debates over this topic and some consultants say it has already been rolled out. I prefer to stick with official news.

Regadrs,
mack!

Hi,
is it really sandbox if you get a +100 or +200 penalty? I thought that sandbox means that this page is totally outside the SERPS (or is the chart related to the domain?)

#19 jan from punks on 10.12.09 at 9:32 am

my website seems to be still in the sandbox. I hope i’ll see the same increase in visitors like you soon.

#20 john on 10.18.09 at 6:48 am

i too there believe that sandbox exist but i think google has some factors upon which it measures whether the site needs to be put in sandbox or not.

#21 John on 10.23.09 at 7:59 pm

I’m a SEO expert, I regularly launch several client websites and also personal websites.

Last month, I launched 2 websites that were ranking very high in Google. I was getting alot of traffic and was generating nice passive income every day. However 2 days ago, my search engine results dropped significantly and went from page 1 to page 7.

I was aware of the sandbox theory and have seen it in action on my previous work. However, I have never seen it this active before.

All I can say is, it exists! You’re right, it does take a few months to get out of it.

I know a few people who start a really good blog, just kept writing and then after around 7-9 months, bang, they get a huge surge of traffic and income.

Keep up the great work, see you out side the sandbox.

Well i think it’s really a nice post about the particular topic, and i hope you will share some thing very interesting in the near upcoming future.

#23 Short Sales in Las Vegas on 10.27.09 at 8:53 pm

It actually exists. It may not be that popular but it does. It’s even been put in an ad in one of the countries (can’t remember where) as part of engaging it into one telecommunication company. Not quiet sure how many people actually made use of it.

#24 ANSH from costa rica real estate on 10.28.09 at 11:42 pm

I think it is exist because this this initial state of the website so every website have to go in the Google sandbox. Can you please help me to give some thing more to explore this topic.

#25 Tejas from PSD to HTML on 11.04.09 at 5:57 am

Yes the sandbox is still very much present. We suffered the same fate earlier on google

#26 webmaster from tips for personal finance on 11.04.09 at 8:42 pm

seesm this exist even if ggogle try to hide it. the question I have is not if it exist, yes and it’s a good example. but what trigger it and can it be avoid
1- does a old domain is immune even if use only for passing time without real good content?
2- does a seo optimisation in first 2 month trigger it as a keyword density of 4-5% on most page can be suspicious for a website start?

#27 vicky on 11.21.09 at 2:02 am

The Google sandbox has a lot of controversy of whether it exists or not, but a lot of people swear by it. However, its great to see you over came it and are not doing well in the SERPS

#28 Charlie from discount shoes online on 11.24.09 at 5:34 am

yeah me too, i was thinking if i should go for it, because when you hear the word controversy about the product that you are going to buy you just keep on thinking whether you should go for it or not, let’s wait what people and companies says.

#29 Pete dzineit from SEO Company on 12.17.09 at 9:22 am

I haven’t been through Sandbox and Sniper yet, since Ad-sense have been a boon to me, I want to stick with it only, unless I don’t get review about snipper and sandbox.

#30 David Allis from Retail barcode numbers for Australia. on 12.21.09 at 8:03 am

The short term solution is to use a pay-per-click option. I wrote this article to help in understanding this option; PPC – How does it work?. There are also directories that can be used for directing traffic to your website which can also build the site’s rank. At the same time you need to start convincing Google that your site is worthy of its attention; the long term solution.

#31 Jenny Johnson on 01.07.10 at 3:41 am

I am suffering from the sandbox problem also. Good work for you. Thanks for sharing.

#32 Ron from Creating a Sucessful Web Site on 01.07.10 at 9:56 am

I have seen first hand that the Google Sandbox does in fact exist, and I am glad to see you finally got your site out of it. It seems like Google is picky and getting too many backlinks to fast is the most common reason for it.

I have heard however that new domains that get too much traffic or duplicate content can be hit with this as well.

Again glad you got out, and thanks for the chart you posted it really shows the sandbox in effect.

#33 Kai from Girlfriend on 01.08.10 at 12:52 pm

Congrats! Glad you are out of the sandbox, but are you still posting for this blog? Seems pretty dead…

#34 web development company on 01.11.10 at 4:36 am

Does google sandbox still exist? I have heard otherwise . But its really nice that you have finally came out of it.

#35 Francis from custom website design on 01.14.10 at 1:20 am

But modern seo experts confidently say that it does not exist any more..but still it is also true that a new domain takes much time to get the chance to be noticed by Google.

#36 Teena from V8 Supercars on 01.23.10 at 11:13 pm

Now I’m gonna believe that sandbox does really exist.
